MeshMind Guide
Everything from installing the add-on to directing a full build. Five minutes here saves your first evening there.
01Install (2 minutes)
You need Blender 5.2 or newer and a MeshMind access token — you got one on your welcome page after checkout, and can always retrieve it again at meshmind.tools/welcome with your order number and email.
- Download the add-on — one .zip for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Don't unzip it.
- In Blender, open Edit > Preferences > Get Extensions, click the ⌄ menu in the top-right corner, and choose Install from Disk… Pick the downloaded zip.
- Switch to the Add-ons tab, expand MeshMind, and paste your token into Access token / API key. The server field is already set — don't change it.
- In the 3D viewport, press N and open the MeshMind tab in the sidebar.
You should see the prompt box and, after a moment, your plan and remaining tokens at the top of the panel. That readout means everything is connected.
02Your first prompt
Type into the prompt box and press Send. Start with something you can verify at a glance:
add a red cube named TestCube sitting on the floor at the originWatch the panel: the Send button becomes a live readout of what MeshMind is doing — Thinking… 8s, Running create_primitive… 12s — while its reasoning streams into the chat and the cube appears. The ✗ next to it stops the AI instantly if you change your mind. Then try a real one:
make a low-poly campfire: stone ring, crossed logs, and a flameEverything it builds is ordinary Blender geometry — meshes, modifiers, materials — that you can edit by hand the moment it's done.
03Talking to it
- Brief it like a modeler, not a search engine. "a weathered wooden barrel, slightly bulged staves, two iron bands" beats "barrel".
- Use object names. MeshMind reads your scene — "make Barrel 20% taller and move it next to Crate" works.
- Iterate. Each prompt sees the current scene, so "now bevel the edges" or "that's too tall, halve it" continues naturally.
- Give it a reference. Click the image icon in the Project memory box to attach a reference image — MeshMind will look at it and compare its work against it while building.
- Set the effort dial. In the add-on preferences: Low for quick simple edits, Medium (default) for most work, High for tricky spatial or long multi-step tasks. Higher effort costs more tokens per action.
04Pointing at things
When words are clumsy — "put a door here" — use the markup buttons above the chat log:
- Pin — click, then click a spot on any object in the viewport. Your next prompt can say "here" and MeshMind knows the exact spot: cut a round window here
- Region — drag a rectangle; every object fully inside becomes the target: make everything in this area 30% smaller and more weathered
Markup is consumed by the next prompt you send, and the ✕ button clears it if you change your mind.
05What it can do
MeshMind has about sixty tools. You never call them by name — describe what you want and it picks. Here's the range, with prompts you can paste:
- Shapes & structure. Primitives, 3D text, spun profiles (vases, glasses, lamp bases), tapered organic tubes (limbs, pipes, branches), bend/twist/taper, sculpt-style push and smooth at a spot, mirrored twins, and linear or circular arrays: make a wine glass, 20cm tall arrange 8 chairs in a circle around the table
- Cutting & combining. Boolean cuts and holes (always behind the approval box), joining, splitting loose parts, and snapping parts together until they truly touch: cut a round hole through the door for a window
- Materials & surfaces. Material presets, colors and PBR values, image textures, logo decals stamped at a pinned spot, procedural noise/stripes/gradients, fur, and carved surface relief: stamp my logo image here, 30cm wide
- Scene setup. Lights, cameras aimed at your subject, sky or solid-color world backgrounds, renaming, and importing models you already have (.obj, .fbx, .gltf/.glb, .stl, .ply): set the world to a late-afternoon sky and aim the camera at the house import C:\Models\chair.obj and place it by the table Switch the viewport to Rendered shading to see world backgrounds and true lighting.
- Measuring & looking. It reads your scene every prompt, measures real distances, checks that parts are actually connected, and can screenshot the viewport to judge its own work — against your reference image if you attached one: check that the snowman's parts are all touching look at the scene and fix what looks off
- Animation & rigging. Keyframes, spin and motion, armatures and posing: make the sign spin 360 degrees over 4 seconds — then press spacebar.
The strongest habit: chain pointing with checking. Pin a spot, ask for the change, then capture the viewport and fix anything that looks wrong — it will look at its own work and correct itself.
06Undo & approvals — why you can relax
Every AI turn is one named entry in the AI actions log at the bottom of the panel. Click the loop-back icon on any entry to restore the scene to just before that action — newer AI actions roll back with it, your own edits stay put. The button next to Send undoes the most recent action.
Destructive operations never just happen. When MeshMind wants to delete an object or run a boolean that eats geometry, a red "Awaiting your approval" box appears at the top of the panel. Nothing runs until you click ✓ — and ✗ rejects it without running. The AI is told either way and adjusts. While a delete waits for your decision, the object is hidden as a preview so you see the scene as it would look — rejecting brings it straight back.
Protecting work you love: select any objects and click the lock icon in the Project memory box. MeshMind's tools will physically refuse to modify them — a hard block, not a polite request.
07Job mode — big builds, one prompt
For anything that needs many steps — a creature, a furnished room, a vehicle — tick Run to completion next to the Send button, set the token cap, and describe the whole thing once:
build a black widow spider: bulbous abdomen with a red hourglass, 8 jointed legs, fur — realistic proportionsMeshMind announces a phase plan ("[PLAN: 8 phases]"), works through it round by round without asking permission to continue, verifies its own work with measurements and viewport captures, and reports measured spend against its estimate as it goes. It stops when the work is done, when your cap is reached, or when you press the ✗ Stop button — whichever comes first.
The cap is a hard promise. A job never spends past the number you set. If it pauses at the cap with work remaining, raise the cap and say "finish the current job", or continue manually one prompt at a time.
08Project memory
The Project memory box holds what MeshMind should remember about this project, saved next to your .blend file:
- Facts and decisions it learns along the way ("the style is low-poly", "scale: 1 unit = 1 meter") — it records these itself, and you can delete any entry with ✕.
- Protected objects — the lock icon, see above.
- Reference images — the image icon; attach concept art or photos for MeshMind to build toward.
- Named references — "the archway" can mean those exact four objects, forever.
Memory requires a saved .blend file (it lives in a sidecar next to it). Chat history also persists per-file, so reopening a project brings its conversation back.
09Tokens & your balance
Tokens are MeshMind's unit of AI work. Your panel always shows what's left, and it refreshes after every action.
| What | Rough cost |
|---|---|
| Simple direct edit (move, resize, rename) | 10–30 tokens |
| Typical modeling action | 30–60 tokens |
| Complex step with visual verification | 60–150 tokens |
| A full job-mode creature build | 2,000–6,000 tokens |
Your plan refills monthly (Hobby 8,000 / Pro 20,000). Top-ups add 5,000 tokens that never expire — they're consumed only after the monthly allowance runs out. Buy them with the same email as your subscription and they credit automatically.
10Troubleshooting
"Unknown MeshMind access token"
The token in preferences doesn't match an active account. Re-copy it from your welcome page (watch for missing characters — it starts with mm-), and check your subscription is active.
The panel doesn't appear
Press N in the 3D viewport and look for the MeshMind tab. If it's not there, confirm the add-on is enabled (checkbox in Edit > Preferences > Add-ons) and that you're on Blender 5.2+.
"Out of MeshMind tokens"
You've used the month's allowance. Grab a top-up (never expires) or wait for the monthly refill — the panel shows both numbers.
It made something wrong
That's what the action log is for — revert the step, then re-prompt with more direction ("the legs attach too high — join them at the underside"). Specific corrections work remarkably well.
Anything else
Email support@meshmind.tools — include what you prompted and what happened, and we'll sort you out.
11Advanced: your own API key
Developers who prefer to run against their own Anthropic account: clear the MeshMind server field in preferences and put an Anthropic API key in the key field. Costs then bill to your Anthropic account directly and the panel shows dollars instead of tokens. (No MeshMind subscription needed in this mode — but you're on your own for cost control.)
